undeniably comforting about the aroma of a bubbling lasagna wafting through the kitchen, filling the air with promises of hearty indulgence and nostalgic flavors. Today, we're excited to share with you our all-time favorite lasagna recipe, perfected over years of experimentation and shared meals with loved ones.

Ingredients:

  • Lasagna noodles: Choose your favorite brand or make them from scratch if you're feeling adventurous.
  • For the meat sauce:
    • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
    • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the cheese layer:
    • 15 ounces (425g) ricotta cheese
    • 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • For the assembly:
    • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the meat sauce: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  2. Cook the lasagna noodles: Follow the instructions on the package to cook the lasagna noodles until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  3. Prepare the cheese layer: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.

  4. Assemble the lasagna: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Arrange a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, slightly overlapping them. Spread a layer of the cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce on top.

  5. Bake the lasagna: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top, and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  6. Serve and enjoy: Allow the lasagna to cool for a few minutes before slicing into portions. Serve with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and some crusty bread on the side, if desired.

Tips:

  • Make the lasagna ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking. This allows the flavors to develop even further.
  • Feel free to customize the recipe by adding your favorite vegetables, such as mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers, to the meat sauce.
  • Don't skimp on the cheese! The combination of ricotta, Parmesan, and mozzarella makes this lasagna irresistibly creamy and delicious.
